Laundry Recommendations

cleaning tips laundry recommendations

Sabco cleaning textiles are made of high-quality materials that guarantee excellent cleaning performance. In order to retain the functionality of these cleaning textiles in daily use and maximise their lifespan, it is important to take care of them properly.
Below are our laundry recommendations that will help you to achieve the best from your microfibre cloths and mops.

Pre-wash new cloths and mops

Wash cloths and mops before using for the first time. This tightens the seams and improves the absorption capacity of the fibres.

Wash separately

Wash microfibre separately from the other textiles to avoid damage and lint corruption. A laundry bag also helps achieve the best result.

Remove dirt from the cloth/mops before laundering

Dirty cloths and mops should be shaken out thoroughly or vacuumed before washing in a machine as this prevents damage to the textiles and the washing machine as well.

Do not overload the washing machine

Make sure that cloths and mops can easily move inside the machine drum otherwise it is not possible for the dirt to be rinsed out. Do not exceed the max weight suggested by the machine manufacturer.

Pre-cycle wash

Cloths and mops should be washed in a pre-wash cycle with cold water. This helps to remove dirt and will improve results of the washing cycle. It is better to not use detergent in this phase to prevent fibres being damaged by chemical reactions with cleaning-agent residue. Respect maximum temperature specification.

Cycle wash

Use only neutral detergent in the main washing cycle, unless different specifications. Do not use fabric softener. Respect dosing indication by the manufacturer.

Drying cloths and mops

It is always important to store cloth and mops dry. If they can be tumble dried, do not exceed max time and temperature specifications indicated. If the textile manufacturer does not recommend the use of a dryer, store the mops and cloth in a dry room where they can naturally dry. Always avoid damp storage as it permits bacteria proliferation.

Cleaning Methodologies

cleaning tips methodologies

Any industry and location has different requirements in terms of cleaning and hygiene. Sabco offer a variety of cleaning solutions that can make it easy any cleaning activity.

Wet system

Wet cleaning is usually identified with the presence of buckets and press wringers for traditional mop heads or alternatively flat mops. This is ideal when the same mop has to be re-used several times and there is no issue with having a slower to dry floor. It is also preferred when a laundry facility is not available.

Spray system

Spray cleaning is based on spray handle or applicator and flat mops. This is ideal for small areas where there is a need for a quick clean and quick drying floor. It’s ideal with the use of disposable/changeable flat mops that can be easily changed at any time that is required. It can also be used with re-usable mops if there is the possibility to clean the mops after use.

Damp/Pre-prepared system

When you and your customers have to offer higher hygiene cleaning solution, you have to look into a damp/pre-prepared system. Flat mops are pre-moist with the right quantity of cleaning solution, in order to clean an area big enough according to the capacity of the flat mop. In general, a 40cm pre-prepared flat mop can clean up to 30m². This system is based on changing the flat mops in each area or as soon as the mop is dry, in order to always use clean materials and avoid cross contamination. The pre-moistening of the flat mops guarantees a quicker drying of the floor, compared to the other systems.

Microfibre Technology

cleaning tips microfibre technology

Microfibre is constructed from a blend of polyester and polyamide and is safe to use on the most delicate surfaces. The polyester serves as the scrubbing and cleaning fibre whilst the polyamide performs absorbs and makes it quick drying.

About Microfibre

Microfibre refers to fibres whose individual threads are finer than 1 dtex (short for “decitex“). 1 dtex means: 10,000 meter of this extremely fine individual threads weight just 1 gram. The microfibre is approx 50 times smaller than a human hair. Compared to other fabrics of the same weight, microfibre has a significantly higher volume and greater surface area, which results in better dirt removal than other fibres commonly used in mops and cloths. Although many surfaces may appear smooth, when looked at under a microscope they appear uneven. Microfibre reaches into these microscopic crevices where conventional fibres cannot and removes all dirt.

Electrostatic Effect

When microfibre is used dry on a floor or on a surface its friction results in an electrostatic charge that leads to the attraction of negatively-charged dirt. This happens without raising dust. Every type of dirt, dust, lint, hair and other soils are attracted and captured by the microfibre.

Capillary Effect

When used damp the extremely fine fibres create a capillary effect within the fibre, sucking up and holding liquid/dirt from the surface into the inner fibres of the cloth. This “capillary effect” allows the microfibres to absorb and hold up to six times its weight in liquid, thanks to the higher number of air chambers and the smallest pores between the fibres. Dirt and bacteria are trapped/held in the fibres until the cloth/mop is laundered.
